Yep, Amazon is once again expanding its presence in Austin.  According to a recent article in the Austin American Statesman, Amazon is adding 600 new jobs in its office space located at the Domain (Braker Lane & Mopac area).  This is in addition to the 800 new jobs that Amazon announced in March.  Amazon didn’t state the salary range for the new hires but the company does pay well.  Terry Leeper, Amazon’s tech hub general manager stated that Austin is becoming one of their fastest growing tech hubs.  He cited the reasons for this expansion to the great talent found in our area and because of their being a strong pool of innovators that can serve their customer base.  Amazon has over 5,000 employees in the Austin area.  These employees include those at Whole Foods which they recently acquired and those working at their San Marcos distribution center.  Amazon likes to gobble up nice office space too.  Their two Domain locations total 252,000 square feet, that’s over 5 ¾ acres of prime real estate.

So if Amazon is expanding in the Austin area doesn’t it make sense that it is a good idea to own Austin area residential real estate?  When these new hires move to town they have to live somewhere and that could very well be in a well-placed residential rental.
